Dr. Rachael Scariano has been practicing veterinary medicine since 2017, but she has been working with animals since she was a teenager.
She was born and raised in Knoxville, TN but moved to Atlanta, GA after graduating from Veterinary School. She then lived in midtown Atlanta for a few years, and then bought a home out in Kennesaw, GA in 2018.
The majority of Dr. Scariano’s undergraduate degree was completed at University of Tennessee, but she has a secondary degree bachelor’s degree in animal science from Gwinnett Technical College and was a registered veterinary technician prior to getting accepted into veterinary school. She went to veterinary school in St. Kitt’s at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and completed her clinical year at North Carolina State University, graduating in 2017. She then spent ~ ½ a year living in Japan after veterinary school, learning Japanese prior to moving back to the US to start her veterinary career.
Dr. Scariano is a general practitioner who originally planned to specialize in neurology but opted to continue forward with general practice for now. She also has a deep passion for surgical dentistry; she works at a dental specialty clinic on the side from time to time-VDCA in Atlanta. Dr. Scariano enjoys surgery so much that she owns two pairs of personally fitted surgical loupes. Internal medicine and dermatology are her secondary interests.
Dr. Scariano currently has one canine family member, a pug named Machi Maru, who enjoys agility and obedience trials for fun. She also takes Machi Maru to the pug festival meet ups in Atlanta! Her family owns several pugs, and they have enough pugs to be called a “grumble”. Dr. Scariano grew up with 10 dogs at once on 12 acres of land, so although she loves cats too, dogs are her passion.
In Dr. Scariano’s free time, she enjoys going to music festivals, watching anime, playing video games and traveling. She also enjoys discussing movies and is an avid horror movie and David Lynch fan. Dr. Scariano can speak conversational Japanese, and she enjoys private karaoke rooms; she and her boyfriend of 8 years have a running karaoke song list. Dr. Scariano also has the tattoo for Shaky Knees music festival so that she can get to go for free for life.
